Leading betting firm has announced a renewed partnership with the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) to support the men's national rugby 7s team, Shujaa, in their quest as they make a return to the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series.

This two-year deal, valued at 82.5 million KES, provides critical backing for Shujaa's 2024/25 campaign, which gets underway in Dubai on November 30, 2024.

Although Shujaa was relegated in 2023, they showed character by winning the 2023 Africa 7s title and qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics, their third successive appearance. They also booked their slot back into the World Series, retaining the Safari 7s title.

While unveiling the partnership, SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri said the partnership reflects the company's commitment to Kenyan sports and empowering athletes. "We believe in Shujaa's potential and are confident they will make a significant impact in the upcoming season," he said.

The KRU chairman, Sasha Mutai, also repeated words of gratitude to the sponsors , citing that the organization has greatly been instrumental in the recent successes of Shujaa. The new deal grants 33 million KES to the 2024/25 season and 49.5 million KES to the 2025/26 season.

The Shujaa are pooled in Pool A for the Dubai 7s alongside France, Australia, and South Africa. In addition, this sponsorship will also provide a total prize money purse of 1.65 million KES for the 2025 National 7s Circuit.
