Whichever core team finishes lowest in the 2023 Series will be relegated to the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2024, while those ranked 12th to 14th will compete against the Challenger Series 2023 winner for the 12th and final position on the 2024 Series.
Shujaa(21 points) alongside Spain (18) and Canada (14) are also in danger of losing their core team status with six tournaments to play.
The team finished 11th at the just concluded Sydney leg of the series after exiting the tournament with a 26-24 defeat to Tonga in the 9th place semifinal.
Brian Tanga and Alvin Otieno each scored a brace for Shujaa with Tanga adding two conversions.
The team had earlier defeated Spain 17-12 in match that saw Herman Humwa, Anthony Omondi and Denis Abukuse with Omondi adding a conversion.
Following the latest rounds of action in Hamilton and Sydney, Shujaa has moved up two places to 12th on the World Rugby Sevens Series log with 21 points, three short of Uruguay who are currently placed 11th.
