Nairobi Water Queens have been synonymous with the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) women's league in the recent past and they look set to win yet another title.

However, rivals and title-hopefuls Ulinzi Sharks are looking to break that dominance and lift the elusive gong.

Team ace, Sarah Wasike admits that this will be no mean feat but is confident her side can go past the Water in the second leg fixture, a result that would give the military side a huge opportunity to win the league.

"We have brought a third force to the league and that is good competition. We lost both our home and away matches narrowly to Water last season and in the first leg but we picked valuable lessons from those matches.

We know what we need to work on ahead of  this season's second leg and I am confident we will pick that crucial win that could win us the league," Wasike offered.

She was speaking after her side handed Rising Stars a 60-12 thrashing as the KHF women's league resumed on Saturday 4 February.

This is Sharks' eleventh win in 12 matches, a result that ties them in second place on 22 points with National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Women before Sunday 5 February matches.

"The team spirit and morale is high and we are targeting wins in all the remaining matches as that will propel us to the league title.

We are not where we want to be in terms of fitness but we are working on that. Our first match on resumption was not tough, however, it was a good place to gauge ourselves and see the areas we need to work on.

Other matches of the day saw Kimilili-based Rangers Women pick a 41-26 win over Thika's Amazon before playing for a 35-all draw against Kenyatta University.
