Shabana boost squad with signings from Bandari and Gor Mahia

Shabana boost squad with signings from Bandari and Gor Mahia
Frederick Peter Odhiambo

Football Kenya Federation Premier League returnees Shabana have added two experienced players in their ranks as a way of boosting their chances of surviving the drop.

The Glamour Boys secured the services of goalkeeper Frédérick Peter Odhiambo from Bandari with right back Alvin 'Chicha' Ochieng joining from Gor Mahia.

Odhiambo, joins Shabana after parting ways with Bandari following the expiry of his short term contract while Chicha is understood to have penned a loan deal with the club.

Odhiambo brings a wealth of experience to Shabana having won the league with Gor Mahia and the international experience he garnered during his stay at K'Ogalo.

He played in the lucrative CAF Confederation Cup and Champions League and secured national team call ups while at Gor.

The former Mathare United custodian had a brief stint in the Rwandese top tier before joining Bandari last year.

He is expected to face competition for playing time from Mustapha Oduor who has been the preferred starter in recent weeks.

Chicha on the other hand is expected to inject athleticism in the defence given his explosive runs on the wing.

Despite being young, the right back has the much-needed experience that will come in handy for the club.

The former national U20 defender played for Kisumu All Stars, Wazito, FC Talanta before joining Gor last year.

Shabana are beefing their squad with the emphasis being the backline that let the team down significantly in the first leg of the season.

The Kisii-based club was expected to sign players with top flight experience upon securing promotion to the top flight but made few additions in the off-season transfer window.

The decision against rebuilding before the campaign kicked off exposed the team as struggles on the pitch were the order of the day, forcing the management to ring changes in the technical bench.

Coach Sammy Okoth who led the club to automatic promotion was fired in November last year and would be replaced by Pamzo earlier in the month.

Pamzo, a league winner with Tusker in 2011worked with Odhiambo at Gor and is understood to be a huge fan of Chicha' style of play.
