The Rising Stars finally sealed their qualification to AFCON U21 and the finals of CECAFA competition in the 94th minute after substitute Loui Ingavi tapped in a rebound
The Kenya national team The Rising Stars U20 has qualified for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON U20) after beating Burundi 4 – 0 during the CECAFA semifinals played on 18th October, 2024, at the Azam complex in Tanzania.
The Salim Babu-led team dominated the whole of first half but struggled, squandering many chances. Midfielder Andreas Odhiambo was nearly sent off for a harsh tackle on a Burundian player, making him unconscious but the referee opted to only book him.
Kenya were finally able to break the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Lawrence Okoth, after being set up by winger William Gitamu. AFC Leopards forward Hassan Beja doubled the lead in the 68th minute before midfielder Aldrine Kibet continued his scoring streak with a wonderful solo goal three minutes later.

Kenya will now play the final against hosts Tanzania who beat Uganda 2 – 1 earlier on. Notably, the two finalists met in their opening matches of the competition where Kenya emerged victorious with a 1 – 0 scoreline. They will both represent the CECAFA region at next years AFCON U21 competition.
