Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay finished last in 12th place in a time of 4:01.27.
Triple Olympic champion and Kenya’s golden girl, Faith Kipyegon, delivered a breathtaking performance on Saturday night to secure Kenya's fourth gold medal at the Paris Olympics, marking her third consecutive Olympic gold in the 1500m.
Kipyegon, who holds the world record, made history by becoming the first person to win three Olympic medals in the 1500m—let alone three golds.
Kipyegon set a new Olympic record with a time of 3:51.29 in a race where her rival, Gudaf Tsegay, fell to last place despite leading through the first two laps. Australia’s Jessica Hull finished second behind Kipyegon with a time of 3:52.56, while Great Britain’s Georgia Bell claimed third place.
Kipyegon’s victory came just two hours after Kenyan youngster Emmanuel Wanyonyi clinched gold in the men’s 800m in one of the closest finishes of the games, making him the youngest Olympic winner of the 800m track event.
