Michael Olunga's one-year loan spell at Girona FC has come to an end but it is unclear whether the club wants to tie him down with a contract. Olunga who has been on loan from Chinese side Guizhou Zhichen scored three goals in 11 appearances to help Girona FC get the tenth berth in the Spanish La Liga.
Now, rumours in the Spanish capital indicate that two clubs seem to have shown interest in the 24-year-old Kenyan international. Real Betis, who sit sixth in La Liga standings seem to be leading the race to sign him with Real Sociedad also keen. A successful deal will see him remain in Spain next season with his future at both Girona and Guizhou Zhichen unclear.
Olunga seems to prefer a permanent stay in the league with Real Betis who hold a superior position compared to their Sociedad counterparts. Real Betis have been in the market for a striker and this might just be the right opportunity for Kenya's lead striker.
On Tuesday evening, Olunga announced pulling out of the Harambee Stars squad that is set to take part in two friendly matches, at Machakos Stadium against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea on Friday and Monday respectively. Although the real reason for pulling out is unknown, speculations may indicate that Olunga could be busy meeting potential suitors to secure his future.
