he Trophy is on a tour of 51 countries across the world and Kenya is one of only nine African countries which will host the Trophy. It will head to South Africa and then also to Tanzania.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy has arrived in Nairobi and was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House. The Trophy landed in Nairobi on Thursday afternoon and was welcomed at the airport by Cabinet Secretaries Amina Mohamed (Sports), Betty Maina (Industrialization) and Najib Balala (Tourism).
Accompanying the Trophy was Brazilian legend Juliano Belletti. Only past World Cup winners and heads of state are allowed to have their hands on the trophy.
President Kenyatta, while receiving the trophy at State House said that its presence in the country will be a motivation for young footballers to aspire to win it someday.
“As our budding talents move to realize this goal, the government is committed to make more investments and hopefully we make it a reality that our aspiration of qualifying and hopefully, one day winning the trophy are achieved,” said President kenyatta.
He added; “The presence of this trophy which comes to Kenya now for the fourth time is without a doubt an inspiration for our football and the youth, giving them an objective to achieve greater success in football so that one day football’s top prize will be added to Kenya’s trophy collection.”
