The side played for a 3-0( 25-18 25-23, 25-16) loss against the military side, an expected result given KDF's experience but one badly fought nonetheless.
Barely a month after recruiting players to their new outfit, Post Bank women's volleyball team made their debut in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league.
Pitted against Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and Vihiga County, the Vernon Kainga-led bankers had their work cut out.
The side played for a 3-0( 25-18 25-23, 25-16) loss against the military side, an expected result given KDF's experience but one badly fought nonetheless.
With the chance to pick their first win of the season against Vihiga, the bankers had a strong start in their second match, going ahead 25-19 before Vihiga leveled matters at 23-25.
They recovered to win the ensuing set 25-16 and killed off the match with a 25-21 performance in the fourth set for a 3-1 win.
"We had little preparations for this leg after having our recruitment exercise barely three weeks to the league opener.
We had our first match of the season against KDF and despite the loss, I was impressed with the performance after such a short preparation so we had to push for this one.
Vihiga have been in the league in the last two seasons so they are more experienced here, so beating them is pointing to a good start," head coach Kainga who is making a return to top tier volleyball since 2018 when he exited KCB said.
"We have a young squad, some have not played indoors so this is a good morale booster ahead of the next leg. I believe there will be a noticeable difference in performance with more time in training, especially indoors," added the tactician.
Meanwhile, defending champions Kenya Pipeline won their matches 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-21) against Prisons Nairobi before picking a 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-17 and 25-15 ) against Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The investigators had won their day one clash against returning Nairobi Water by straight sets.
