Football Kenya Federation Premier League side, Kenya Police, continued their ambitious recruitment strategy by securing the services of Tanzanian striker Rashid Mchelenga.
The club has been actively making high-profile signings this week, with Mchelenga becoming the third foreign player to join their ranks.
Rashid Mchelenga arrives at Police from Mwanza-based Pamba Jiji FC, a team that competes in the Tanzanian second tier. Despite not securing a deal during the last transfer window, Mchelenga is not a stranger to Police, having trained with the club previously.
Earlier in the week, the law enforcers made headlines by unveiling two experienced players, Samuel Onyango and Duncan Otieno.
Onyango, a winger, made the move to Police after parting ways with the Zambian Super League side Kabwe Warriors. There were previous speculations about Onyango rejoining Gor Mahia, a club he left in October 2022 for Kabwe. The winger was even pictured in the office of ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, a known supporter of Gor Mahia.
Duncan Otieno, a former AFC Leopards captain, returnes to Police for a second spell after a stint with Gaborone United in Botswana. Otieno had left Police for Gaborone in August 2022, joining the club alongside fellow Kenyan, John Mark Makwata.
The recent signings are indicative of Kenya Police's commitment to strengthening their squad during the mid-season transfer window.
These moves come under the leadership of newly promoted head coach Salim Babu, who assumed the role after the departure of Croat Zdravko Logarusic. Since Babu took charge, the team has enjoyed success, winning three matches in as many rounds.
