Police face Sailors as they chase Kenya Hockey league summit

Police face Sailors as they chase Kenya Hockey league summit

With Butali having a rest this weekend, Police who have had to settle for the runners up rank in the last three seasons may shoot to the top.

Former Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League champions Kenya Police will be seeking to shoot down Sailors when the two meet on Saturday at City Park Stadium and ascend to the summit of the standings.

Police who last won the league title in 2017 are ranked second with seven points, a tally that is similar to that of current leaders Butali Warriors.

With Butali having a rest this weekend, Police who have had to settle for the runners up rank in the last three seasons may shoot to the top.

This, will only come to pass if they beat Sailors who are placed fifth with six points. Should Sailors cut Police down to size, they will scale to the top with nine points.

Another top flight tie in the men’s league will see USIU-A Mashujaa open their season with a clash against last season’s second runner up, Western Jaguars at City Park.

Mashujaa have a league double this weekend as, they are expected to play Wazalendo on Sunday at the same venue.

Jaguars opened their season last weekend, playing Butali Warriors to a 2-2 draw at the Eregi Teachers Training College grounds but the result was not immediately ratified according to the Union.

The league managers confirmed that investigations to establish whether Jaguars fielded an ineligible player in the match are yet to be concluded.

Jaguars who are at the rock bottom of the log without a point, are set to play their second match in the weekend on Sunday against KCA University who are perched seventh with two points.

In the women’s Premier League, record champions Blazers have a trip to Kisumu where they are scheduled to play Lakers on Saturday.

A win for Blazers will be enough to send them to the top, surpassing Strathmore University Scorpions who are not in action this weekend by a point.

Lakers sit fourth with four points.

USIU-A Spartans have a date with Amira Sailors on Sunday at City Park. The students rank fifth with three points, three off their match day opponents who are placed third.

A number of Super League and nationwide matches are also set to be played this weekend.
