Kenya Women Premier League reigning champions Kenya Police Bullets halted Bungoma Queens impressive run with a 2 – 1 win at the Kenya School of Government on Sunday December 8th, 2024.

Bullets, the home team of the day, took the lead in the 16th minute when league’s MVP Lydia Akoth converted a spot kick. The Beldine Odemba girls then doubled their lead in the 31st minute, with Rebecca Okwaro adding her name on the score sheet. Just two minutes later, Bungoma managed to pull one back through Catherine Khaemba with the game leading for halftime on a 2 – 1 score line.

In the second half, Bungoma pressed for an equalizer, but Bullet’s defense led by Kenya U17 captain Elizabeth Ochaka stood firm, holding off pressure and securing the victory.

The victory sees Bullets move to third with 15 points, just one point behind Bungoma who remain in second place.

In other matches, KISPED Queens ran riot against WADADIA FC beating them 4 – 0, with goals from Asher Achieng, Dorothy Ayuga, Linder Okoside and Laura Atsabina.

In Kisumu, an own goal and two goals from Faith Marende and Yvonne Mayoka helped Vihiga Queens defeat Kisumu All Starlets. Mombasa Olympic held Trinity Queens to a 1 – 1 draw, while league leaders Kibera Soccer Women played to a  goalless draw with Ulinzi Starlets.

KISPED coach Daniel Minjis spoke to MichezoAfrika.com after the match: “It hasn’t been easy in the last few weeks, considering we were struggling to score goals. We worked hard with the attackers and it paid off today. I’m especially happy for Laura; she came on as a substitute and showed what she’s capable of against her former team.”

When asked about the changes made to improve their performance, Minjis stated, “We decided to go back to basics—keeping the ball on the ground and enjoying football, which is what our girls are good at. Asher started today, and you could see how her creativity in the final third really improved. Going forward from our game against Kisumu All Starlets, I believe we’re going to reap big.”

The win lifts KISPED to 8th place with 10 points, while WADADIA FC remains second-bottom with just 4 points. Vihiga Queens occupy 4th place with 14 points and Kisumu All Starlets are 9th with 8 points.
