Tusker FC bounced back to winning ways on Friday evening, securing a 2-1 victory over Posta Rangers at Dandora Stadium. The star of the show was 22-year-old David Polepole, who marked his first league start with a goal and an assist, playing a pivotal role in helping his team end a frustrating five match winless streak and go top of the table with 44 points.
Polepole, the assistant captain of the Youth Team, was recently called up to bolster the senior squad’s attacking options. The forward, who had made cameo appearances in two previous matches – a 1-1 draw against Shabana FC and a brief appearance against Bandari FC – was handed his first league start after impressing in a cup tie against Nairobi United.
The youngster didn’t take long to make an impact. Linking up with his former Youth Team partner Teddy Dok, who was also making his first league start, Polepole provided a perfectly weighted through ball to set up Dok, who controlled it with his chest and fired past the keeper to give Tusker the lead in the 25th minute.
Just five minutes later, Polepole was on the scoresheet himself. Receiving a ball from Eric Balecho inside the box, he calmly rifled a low shot past the Posta Rangers goalkeeper to double Tusker’s lead. The Brewers were dominant in the first half and could have added more to their tally, with David Odoyo coming close twice, his well-taken shots narrowly missing the target. Balecho also forced a brilliant save from the Posta keeper at full stretch.
Posta Rangers came out stronger in the second half, looking to claw their way back into the match. Their efforts paid off in the 65th minute when Felix Oluoch rose to head in a corner at the near post, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
Despite the pressure from the visitors, Tusker held firm and even created more chances to extend their lead. Polepole had a shot saved from the edge of the box, while substitute Dennis Oguma’s low drive narrowly missed the target after a neat cutback from Chris Erambo.
Tusker's hard-fought victory sees them rise to the top of the table with 44 points from 24 matches, ending their winless run in style and showcasing the bright future of Polepole in the senior team.
