Pipeline favourites for Bitok international tourney with the return of Kundu

National team libero and Kenya Pipeline star player Agripina Kundu is set to make a comeback this weekend when her side lines up for the Bitok International tournament set for 7 to 9 April in Nairobi.

Kundu has been out with a groin injury that saw her sit out the second league leg with Betty Sifuna stepping up in the two matches played to help the oil merchants win.

“I am happy with how the young liberos stepped up in my absence. I am back from a groin injury and I cannot wait to get back on the court. It was a worrying time to be out on injury but I am ready for the weekend.

This tournament gives me the chance to gauge how fit I am as all the league teams have signed up and what better stage to test myself and my form ahead of a busy club schedule,” offered Kundu in an interview with the club’s media.

With the return of Kundu, the league champions head to the tournament as favourites and are expected to top their group after two days of battle to head to the semis and final set for the final day of action.

Pipeline have landed Nairobi Water, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the pools while Prisons Kenya headlines the other pool that has Prisons Nairobi, Post Bank, KCB and Kenya Army.

The women’s competition will be held at Kasarani from Friday and will not have the quarters. The top two teams in each group qualify for the semis set for Sunday.

Meanwhile, the men’s teams are grouped into four pools of three with the top two teams in each pool set to clash in the quarters. Pool A meets Pool D teams in the quarters.
