The Kenyan teams had a day of mixed results at the 2024 Women’s Volleyball Club Championships in Cairo, Egypt as the competition entered the second day on Saturday.
While KCB and Kenya Pipeline secured their second victories of the tournament, Kenya Prisons faced disappointment with a 0-3 loss to hosts Al Ahly.
Pipeline and KCB had both dominated on the first day, with Pipeline sweeping aside Nigeria Customs 0-3 (16-25/10-25/14-25), and KCB breezing past Algeria’s Association Sportive de la Wilaya de Bejaia with another 0-3 win (16-25/09-25/21-25).
Boosted by the return of international player Sharon Chepchumba, who had a brief stint competing in Europe, KCB secured another crucial victory, defeating Cameroons’ Litto Team Volley in a thrilling 3-1 action (25-21, 25-14, 19-25, 30-28).
Meanwhile, Pipeline extended their unbeaten streak by overcoming Mayo Kane Evolution of Cameroon with a solid 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-19).
However, Kenya Prisons' quest for their first win hit a roadblock as they were soundly beaten by the defending champions in straight sets, with a scoreline of 3-0 (21-25, 08-25, 19-25).
