Omanyala lowers 60m indoor national record

African 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala continues his perfect start to his 2024 season, storming to 60 m dash victory in a new national record at the Paris Indoor Tour on Sunday.

Omanyala broke his national record again, running 6.51 seconds to finish ahead of Emmanuel Matadi (6.57 s) while Azu Jeremiah was third with 6.59 seconds. His time was also a meet record.

His new feat comes barely a week after timing 6.52 seconds to win the Miramas meet, which was a national record as well.

The Kenyan star sprinter now takes a break before heading to Glasgow, Scotland, for the World Indoor Championships scheduled from March 1 to 3 where he will complete his Indoor season before turning his focus on outdoor running ahead of the Paris Olympics.

“Two great competition weekends.....back-to-back National Records and Meet records.....appreciate all the great wishes and messages for Ferdiomanyala and team, we take a small break then start building again for the finale (sic),” his coach Geoffrey Kimani wrote on social media after the athlete’s performance.

After a 2023 season that saw Omanyala qualify for the World Athletics Championships finals in Budapest, and win his first Diamond League event, Omanyala is hoping for an even better 2024 season that started with two outdoor races during the Athletics Kenya (AK) meets, choosing to race an unfamiliar 200m as he builds on his endurance.
