Despite his absence, eyes will be on an Omanyala versus Kerley rematch in Florence against a star-studded line-up that will also feature reigning DL champion Trayvon Bromell and fellow American Erriyo

Italian sprinter Lamont Marcell Jacobs will miss Friday's, 2 June, 100m Diamond League (DL) meeting in Florence where he was set to battle with world champion Fred Kerley.

Jacobs, who missed Sunday's DL leg in Rabat due to lower back problems, continues to recover from the same, Italian athletics federation announced on Tuesday.

In Rabat, the Italian was set to come up against Commonwealth champion Ferdinand Omanyala, Kerley, Trayvon Bromell among other elite sprinters in the event that was eventually won by Kerley.

"The recovery process for Jacobs, after the problem that emerged in recent days, does not appear to be fully completed yet," the federation said in a statement.

Since skipping last year's edition of the Kip Keino Classic with a case of suspected food poisoning, the Olympic champion has missed DL legs in Eugene, Rome, Oslo and Stockholm.

During the World Athletics Championships in Oregon he pulled out in the semis citing a recurring thigh injury that had worsened during a training session.

Despite his absence, eyes will be on an Omanyala versus Kerley rematch in Florence against a star-studded line-up that will also feature reigning DL champion Trayvon Bromell and fellow American Erriyon Knighton as well as South Africa's Akani Simbine.
