OLYMPICS: Kenya's Shujaa Fall to Argentina

Despite Wekesa Kevin levelling the score at 12-all, Argentina struck back with a series of converted tries, sealing a 31-12 victory at the end of the match condemning Kenya to their opening defeat

Argentina rallied from a first-half deficit to defeat Kenya’s Shujaa 31-12 in the opening match of the 2024 Paris Olympics Rugby Sevens on Wednesday evening.

Chrisant Ojwang had kicked off Kenya’s Olympic tally with a super try within the 3rd minute, followed by a smooth conversion from Anthony Mboya, giving Kenya a 7-0 lead. Argentina quickly responded with a try by Augustine Fraga at 6:43, but Wade Francis missed the conversion, leaving Kenya ahead 7-5 at halftime.

The second half saw a quick start for Argentina, with Fraga scoring another try just a minute in, converted by Pellandini Joaquin, pushing Argentina ahead 12-7.

Kenya is set to face Australia at 8:00 PM Kenyan time on Wednesday in their second must-win match. 

Earlier, Australia defeated Samoa 21-14 in the opening match.
