Olympic football draw revealed: Tough pools for Africa's representatives

South Africa have been drawn against Japan, France and Mexico in Pool A of the men’s competition while Cote d’Ivoire are in Pool D with Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Germany.

Africa’s representatives at the Olympic Games football tournaments have found out their opponents as the draw for this year’s competition in Tokyo was conducted in Zurich on Wednesday.

South Africa have been drawn against Japan, France and Mexico in Pool A of the men’s competition while Cote d’Ivoire are in Pool D with Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Germany.

Zambia, Africa’s sole representatives in the women’s competition are up against China, Brazil and Netherlands.

Group A: Japan, South Africa, Mexico, France.

Group B: New Zealand, Korea Republic, Honduras, Romania.

Group C: Egypt, Spain, Argentina, Australia.

Group D: Brazil, Germany, Côte d'Ivoire, Saudi Arabia.

Women's Olympic Football Tournament

Group E: Japan, Canada, Great Britain, Chile.

Group F: China PR, Brazil, Zambia, Netherlands.

Group G: Sweden, USA, Australia, New Zealand.
