Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga is expected to temporarily swap his football boots for marathon running shoes as he is expected to feature in the Doha Marathon set for February 16.
Olunga who plies his trade with Qatari side Al Duhail has been invited to grace the race alongside his teammates at the club.
The organisers of the marathon and Duhail have however not specified which event they will race as besides the full marathon, the half marathon, 10k,5k,special 3k for children and 1k for recreation are expected to be held on the same course.
"As part of our partnership with I want and promoting mutual relations, Duhail Stars are taking part in the activities of the State Sports Day at Corniche Park, and also participating in the Doha Marathon on the 16th of this month, read a post by Duhail.
The organisers are targeting 10,000 participants this year with funds raised from the marathon set to be donated to a range of worthy charities in Qatar.
The inclusion of the Duhail stars in the program will significantly benefit Olunga as he seeks to regain full fitness after being out with an injury.
The striker had been out since December with an injury but marked his return in a friendly match against Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua last week.
Whatever race Olunga will feature in, one thing that remains certain is he will run shoulders on the course with his compatriots as elite and upcoming Kenyans long distance athletes are expected to participate.
Last year, Olunga demonstrated his love for athletics as he was in the stands during the Doha leg of the Diamond League and was later pictured with 1500m record holder Faith Kipyegon.
