Olunga ends Girona sojourn with a win
Micheal Olunga ended his one season Loan with Girona FC on Saturday 19th and could be back hunting for another move away from the Chinese Super League
Girona FC beat La Palmas 2-1 in their final 2017/2018 Spanish La Liga match on Saturday 19th May at Estadio de Gran Canaria.
Cristian Stauni’s brace secured the points for Girona with Las Palmas reducing the deficit through Jonathan Calleli. By Saturday La Liga Standings, Girona were placed 9th in the log but the positions could change if the Real Sociedad or Eibar pick wins on Sunday.
26-year-old Kenyan international Micheal Olunga joined the action in the 84th minute after coming on for the red-hot Cristhian Stuani in what could be his last match for the Catalan club.
Olunga joined the Spanish La Liga on 1st September 2017 and after a one season loan at Girona, he now goes back to Chinese Super League side Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng FC not unless Girona renegotiates the deal.
In his La Liga sojourn, Olunga clocked 426 minutes from fourteen appearances, four starts and ten as a substitute. He scored three goals.
Coach Pablo Machín’s philosophy of sticking to a preferred starting eleven worked against Olunga who maily joined the action to wind down the clock. In games where he had good play time, Olunga’s predatory stills were well on display.
The two-time Kenya Premier League winner with Gor Mahia has excused himself from the upcoming Harambee Stars friendlies against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea as he sorts out his future move with his agent.
He should however join Harambee Stars in a four nation tournament in India on June, 2018.
