Kenyan international Michael Ogada Olunga has completed a move to Qatari champions Al Duhail SC from Japanes J-League 1 club Kashiwa Reysol. The 26 year old striker has just come off a stellar season in Japan where he claimed the golden boot after scoring 28 goals in 32 appearances for Reysol. He was also named the J-League's Most Valuable Player, the first African to win the prestigious title.

Currently under the tutelage of Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi, Al Duhail are seven time Qatar champions ( 2010–112011–122013–142014–152016–172017–182019–20). They have also won the Qatar Cup on three occasions (2013, 2015, 2018).

The venture into Qatar is just another part of Olunga's journey which started at Liberty Sports Academy where he played in the Nairobi County League while still a student at Upper Hill School in Nairobi.

He would then move to Kenyan top tier side Tusker FC on a season's loan deal during the 2013 season. This was followed by another loan move to Thika United in 2014 before his third and most successful loan move in Kenya with Gor Mahia during the 2015 season when Kogallo won the league title unbeaten with Olunga claiming the Golden Boot  after scoring 19 goals.

He would move to Sweden in 2016, joining Allsvenskan side  Djurgårdens IF on a four year deal, scoring 12 goals in 27 outings.

This was followed by another move in 2017 to Chinese side Guizhou Zhicheng. who loaned him out to Spanish La Liga side Girona. On 13 January 2018, he made his La Liga debut against Las Palmas scoring a hat-trick in the span of 22 minutes during a 6–0 win, becoming both the first Kenyan player and the first Girona player to score a hat-trick in La Liga

On 10 August 2018, Olunga joined Japanese club Kashiwa Reysol.

On 24 November 2019, he scored eight goals for Kashiwa in a 13–1 victory over Kyoto Sanga.[20] Olunga finished the season with 27 league goals as Kashiwa finished the J2 season as champions and won promotion to the first division.[21]

Olunga finished as the top scorer in the 2020 Japanese J1 League with 28 goals,[winning the Golden boot and the J-League 2020 MVP.
