Kenya international Micheal Olunga added 66 minutes to his Spanish La Liga time of play on Thursday in his side Girona FC’s win over Deportivo Alavés at Estadio de Mendizorroza.

Girona won 2-1 with the hosts Alaves having three goals disallowed due to offside.

Aleix Garceia’s free kick swung to the back of the net to give Girona a 1-0 lead in the 58th while Cristian Stuani scored from the spot to secure the three points four minutes to the end.

Alaves replied through a nice volley by Tomas Pina which only counted as a late consolation.

Olunga who started the match after shaking of a hip discomfort that had ruled out for two matches. gave a good account for himself with two shots on goal and  was at times forced to backpedal to aid the Girona defence.

The Kenyan paved way for regular starter Stuani in the 66nd minute. Olunga has now played in eleven Spanish La Liga matches, four as a starter and seven as a substitute. So far Olunga has scored three La Liga goals translating to a goal per 171 minutes of action.

The match almost degenerated into chaos in the dying minutes as Alaves players looked for an equaliaser while Girona used all the time wasting tactics at their disposal to secure the win.

Girona are now placed 10th in the 20-team Spanish La Liga  table on 44 points. Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid occupy the first three positions in that order.
