Police celebrate the result over Gor Mahia

Old boys returned to haunt and dealt Gor Mahia the first defeat in the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League as the record champions fell 3-1 to Kenya Police on Saturday.

Gor were looking to disarm Police and extend their unbeaten run in the season but that wasn't to happen as Police rallied from behind to spoil the party.

Prior to the game, Gor were unbeaten in nineteen roundsrounds,  winning twelve and sharing points seven points, a run that kept them at the summit with a ten-point cushion.

Austin Odhiambo who has been one of the consistent players at the club this season.

Gor had previously demonstrated their ability to hold a 1-0 lead heading into half time but Police proved too hot to handle in the second half, wiping the goal and adding two to take home three points.

Interestingly the culprits behind God's fall are old boys who accounted for two goals and an assist in the game.

David Okoth leveled matters before Tito Okello, a former Gor striker added the second for Police.

Kenneth Muguna, a former Gor captain was put through by Francis Kahata, a former Gor midfielder of the golden generation of recent times to put the result beyond the reach of the Green Army.

Following the win, Police have won all their four matches from the time coach Salim Babu took over the reigns with Okello being on the score sheet in all.

On the other end, it sees God's advantage at the top sliced to eight points as Posta Rangers beat Nzoia Sugar 1-0 at Sudi Stadium.

Dinken Mwema scored the all-important goal for the mailmen in the second half.

Meanwhile, Tusker lost toBidco United for the first time in the top flight after falling 1-0 to the Thika based club at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Douglas Mokaya settled the contest after finding the back of the net in the first half.

Kakamega Homeboyz extended their poor run after playing Muhoroni Youth to a barren draw at Bukhungu Stadium.

Homeboyz have now gone for six matches without a win or scoring a goal.
