Ivone Adhiambo and Ann Anyango scored as Gor Mahia Queens secured their first win of the new year in the Women’s FKF National Super League last weekend defeating GASPO Women 2 – 0 at the Stima Club Grounds.

Gor, who have been on the market sourcing for a striker in the transfer window found the net just 13 minutes into the game when Adhiambo looped the ball over the goalkeeper after being set up with a fantastic through pass from midfield.

In the second half, Gor had several open chances to double the lead but GASPO’s goalkeeper stood firm denying them in each and every opportunity. In the last minute of the game, right wingback Anyango brought in what seemed like a cross, which went straight to the goalkeeper, who deflected it into her own net in efforts to clear it off, with the game finishing 2 – 0.

In other Zone A matches, Mathare United defeated MTG 2 – 0, Bandari thrashed Faith Mboya less Sunderland Samba 6 – 1 and Barcelona Beat Uweza Soccer 2 – 1.

In Zone B, Charity Midewa scored a brace as Madira Assassins defeated Kakamega Starlets 4 – 0. Valarie Nekesa and Brenda Awour were also on the score sheet as Madira secured the victory to move to top two of their standings.

In other Zone B encounters, a lone goal was enough to secure victory for Trans Nzoia Falcons and Kisii Queens against Vicker Queens and Royal Starlets.

In other matches, Rebecca Okwaro became the first player to hit double figures in consecutive seasons in the Women’s Kenyan Premier League as she scored a brace when Kenya Police Bullets defeated Bunyore Starlets 4 – 0 at the Kenya School of Government last weekend.

Diana Wacera opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Okwaro scored a brace in the 23rd and 28th minute of the game with the first half ending 3 – 0.

After the restart, the tired Bunyore managed to settle the game and didn’t concede until the 83rd minute when Emily Morang’a managed to put the ball into the net and seal a 4 – 0 victory for the reigning champions.

The game saw Police recent acquisition from Ulinzi Starlets Eunice Mwangi delivered a standout performance for her new club. Bullets now go top of the table with 28 points pending other league matches.
