Okutoyi facing Desai test in ITF W15 singles semis

The Kenya star is looking to replicate her performance at the W15 Doubles where she triumphed two weeks ago alongside partner Beverly Nyangon.

Two-time African champion and 2022 Wimbledon girls’ Doubles champion Angela Okutoyi is eyeing a final berth when she takes on Indian star Zeel Desai in the ITF W15 women singles tour semis ongoing in Monastir, Tunisia.

Okutoyi booked a place in the semis after seeing off 19-year-old Italian Anastasia Abbagnato 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 in the quarters on Friday, a great result against the tournament’s fifth seed.

Her performance has been on an upward trajectory as she had picked a straight-sets 6-4, 6-0 victory against top seed, Yasmin Mansouri in the round of 16.

In the semis, the unseeded Outoyi faces another tough test in 24-year-old Zeel Desai who has a career-high singles ranking of 549 by the WTA, achieved on 19 September 2022.

She also has a career-high WTA doubles ranking of 510, attained on 10 September 2018. Desai has won two singles titles and four doubles titles on the ITF Circuit.
