Although the match falls on a workday, Odemba expressed hope that fans would still make time to attend and support the team.

Harambee Starlets head coach, Beldine Odemba, addressed the media at Absa Grounds in Nairobi on Monday as her team prepares for their crucial WAFCON qualification match against Tunisia, scheduled for this Friday at the Ulinzi Stars Complex. During the media session, Odemba shared insights into the team’s preparations, the emerging talent within the country and her expectations for the task ahead.

Odemba reflected on the Starlets' recent preparations, which included two friendly matches. "We played two friendlies and we were able to see some tactical changes. The two friendlies have helped us identify areas that need improvement, and we’ve been focusing on working on these areas," she said. The Starlets triumphed in both friendlies, defeating Zetech Sparks 6-0 and Kenya Police Bullets 2-1. These victories, according to Odemba, have been key to fine-tuning the squad and ensuring readiness for the tough challenge ahead.

Odemba also hinted that the team may play one more friendly match before facing Tunisia. "We might play maybe one more friendly before the match to see where we are and make sure that we are ready," she noted, emphasizing the importance of thorough preparation ahead of the qualifier.

In her address, Odemba highlighted the addition of 11 new players to the team, underscoring the wealth of talent emerging in Kenya. "The inclusion of 11 new faces in the team shows that we have a lot of talent in the country. When we see these talents, we draw them nearer and help them to reach their peak and achieve success," she said.

She once again like last week acknowledged the strength of the Tunisian team, who have consistently performed well in international tournaments, including the FIFA windows. "Of course, Tunisia are doing well, always participating in the FIFA window, but we are going to push hard to make sure that we give all our best," Odemba said, expressing confidence that the Starlets will give their best effort to secure the vital qualification.

Playing at home is a crucial factor for the Starlets, as it provides the team with a familiar environment and the support of local fans. "It’s always important to play at home where you always train, with your own weather and your crowd supporting you. It is important for us that we win that match on that day," Odemba stressed. She further emphasized the importance of securing a victory on home turf, stating, "If we have to win this round, then we have to win at home. We are working towards it and we urge our fans to come in large numbers."

Although the match falls on a workday, Odemba expressed hope that fans would still make time to attend and support the team. "It’s a workday, but it’s the best day we could choose. We had the calendar to choose between the 19th and 21st. So putting into consideration the 21st was the ideal day. We hope that Kenyans will make time to come and support the girls," she said.

When asked about the status of key players, particularly Mwanahalima Dogo, who had not yet arrived at the camp from the USA, Odemba remained unphased. "I am not worried about travel logistics. I know she’ll be here by tomorrow, and I hope that she’ll catch up with the other players," she said. Odemba also confirmed that another player, Violet Nanjala, would be joining the team on Tuesday as well.

While the coach acknowledged the presence of injuries within the squad, she chose not to delve deeply into specifics. "Yes, we have some injuries, but I’d prefer not to talk too much about them at this moment," Odemba remarked.

As the team finalizes preparations for their crucial WAFCON qualification match against Tunisia, Odemba remains confident that the team is ready to put up a strong fight. With a mix of experienced players and rising talent, the team is focused on securing their place in the tournament and making the nation proud.

To all the fans, your support is more important than ever. The Starlets need you in the stands come Friday, showing up for them just as they’ve shown up for the country. Your presence can make all the difference!
