Kenya Police FC Chairman Gideon Nyale is optimistic about his team overcoming a 1 – 0 deficit against Egyptian giants Zamalek and qualify for the CAF Champions League group stage.
In the preliminary second round first leg held at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, the law enforcers gave the reigning champions a tough challenge but fell short to a lone goal just before halftime after a tactical mishap on set piece marking.
“When we defeat Zamalek come Friday in Cairo, we will become the Champions of Africa. No team will be compared to us.” He said.
“ It was just a match and they were lucky to win, but come Friday, we will secure the victory.”
Nyale was encouraged by his team’s performance during the first leg noting that scoring a goal or two would put them in a stronger position to eliminate the Egyptians.
“ The game was good. We started on the low but improved, especially after the first substitutions. The way we played in the second half is how we approach in Cairo. We will give them a tough fight.” he remarked.
“ I am proud of the players and their efforts. I told them I’m pleased. We could have scored at least two goals but were unlucky for the day.”
Police have a hard task as they will need a one nil win to take the match to extra time or two goals to eliminate Zamalek at their home ground.
In their opening round of the preliminary matches, Police overcame the challenge of playing away by defeating Ethiopia Coffee 1-0 to advance to the next round. They now face a similarly tough test against Zamalek.
