NOC-K, KBF name 3x3 basketball teams

National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) in conjunction with Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) on Monday 29 May released a list of players set to begin preparations for various international events. 

The team will represent the country in the Africa Beach Games, World Beach Games and Paris Olympics qualifiers.

Kenya is looking forward to qualifying more teams to the forthcoming World Beach Games slated for Bali, Indonesia on August 5-12.

Already qualified for the global contests is Kenya's 3x3 basketball team that is also aiming to make it to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

NOC-K stated that the competition in Bali will help improve, develop and support Kenya's beach games strategy.

"We are currently helping other federations to book tickets to the World Beach Games, we hope that more will join the basketball lot. Taking part in the Games will give Kenya the direction on how to market itself, it will give Kenya an edge over other African nations," NOC-K SG said in a previous interview. 

3X3 Basketball debuted at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 and will also debut at the Africa Beach Games and World Beach Games this year.

For the teams to qualify for Paris 2024 they would need to compete in the 2023 FIBA 3x3 Continental Cup in Cairo, Egypt from 27 Nov to 3 Dec 2023. 

The teams will also have the 2024 FIBA Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament whose date and venue are het to be confirmed.

Before then, the team is expected to participate in the second edition of the Africa Beach Games in Hammamet, Tunisia, from June 23-30 where 52 African countries are expected to compete.
