He called upon federations to declare their sources of funding either from corporate bodies or respective world sports associations before the government can come in to support.
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has issued notice to local sports federations, calling for accountability in exchange for state support.
He said this on Wednesday during a session with representatives from Kenyan sports federations at Kasarani.
He called upon federations to declare their sources of funding either from corporate bodies or respective world sports associations before the government can come in to support.
The tough talking Namwamba said, “Federations don’t want to declare their other sources of funding yet they want the ministry to fund their budgets. It’s only fair if they too reciprocate.”
He called upon federations to have secretariats, saying, ““All federations seeking for assistance from us must have full-fledged secretariat with proper contacts and address,” while noting that federations getting funds from the ministry must file their returns within 14 days upon completion of the assignment for which the funds were allocated.
He further promised that his Ministry will work with all stakeholders to avail resources and facilities to support the fight against doping in Kenya.
In terms of talent identification, he called on federations to undertake early identification and nurturing of talent from grassroot level.
