The federation is likely to propose a second-tier league in order to split the top tier league and introduce relegation and promotions in the next season,

A total of 23 men and 12 ladies’ teams are set to take part in the 2023/24 Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) league season that kicks off on 29 July at the Nyayo National Stadium.

This season’s league will see five new entrants that include Kimilili-based Wakanda and Waterbucks, an outfit composed of Strathmore University alumni.

Wakanda open the season against fellow newcomers Waterbucks.

Nairobi- based Hunters is another team making their debut in the national league. The side is a construct of Nairobi’s Highway Secondary School Alumni and current players.

Other new teams will be Daystar Falcons men and National Youth Service (NYS).

The ladies’ league will see the addition of NYS and Mountain Queens.

Speaking to Michezoafrika.com George Ondeko confirmed that only three teams out of the 23 have not confirmed participation for this year’s season.

“There are no changes yet confirmed for the league. It will still be played on a one leg basis for men and home and away for the women’s competition.

The federation is likely to propose a second-tier league in order to split the top tier league and introduce relegation and promotions in the next season, if we can fulfil all the legal requirements,” Ondeko offered in an interview with Michezoafrika.

Four matches have been scheduled for the opening day with Wakanda taking on the returning NYS on 29 July as the opening match of the season.

Black Mamba played Inspired while Waterbucks take on Hunter. Wakanda close the day’s action against General Service Unit.
