National hockey teams head to Ghana with incomplete technical benches

This is after the government and the Kenya Hockey Union failed to avail funds enough to sent both teams to Ghana with fully constituted technical benches.

The Kenyan hockey teams to the All African Games will have to do without the services of key technical bench expertise in Accra Ghana.

This is after the government and the Kenya Hockey Union failed to avail funds enough to send both teams to Ghana with fully constituted technical benches.

Precisely, each team will have a head coach and a team manager for the tournament that is set to kick off on Monday.

With the teams scheduled to leave for Ghana last night, questions have been asked on the wellbeing of the players as both teams will not have doctors and physiotherapists.

Assistant coaches, statistician, video analysts and trainers attached to both teams have been locked out of the traveling party.

Initially, there were reports that government would drop hockey and volleyball teams due to budget limitations but KHU managed to successfully intervene.

Their pleas saw the government reserve a paltry sixteen slots for both teams but after a series of negotiations, two more slots were added for the respective playing units and two for the technical bench.

"Each bench should have a minimum of seven expertees. We will however have two as that is what the government has approved," said KHU President Nashon Randiek.

Kenya could also land into trouble with the African body after three of the technical officials who were to accompany both teams failed to secure tickets.

This according to Randiek will attract a fine of 4,000euros which will be passed to KHU and later to the government.

The three officials are : Carren Koloni, Titus Ngolia and Charity Miller who were to officiate in the Games.

They were however struck off the traveling list among top KHU officials including Randiek and his deputy Elynah Shiveka.

The participating nations are required to avail technical officials and failure to which attracts a fine.
