Kakamega Homeboyz Coach Nicholas Muyoti
Nicholas Muyoti has been named the Fidelity Insurance/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya coach of the month for January after seeing his Kakamega Homeboyz side fly high and move all the way to the top three in the Kenyan Premier League table.
Muyoti beat Gor Mahia’s boss Steve Polack to bag the award that comes with a Sh75,000 purse and was awarded his achievement on Tuesday afternoon at the Bukhungu Stadium.
“My appreciation goes to the players, management and sponsors for working tirelessly and ensuring that we win our games. We are prepared to go all the way and win this league even though our motto remains taking one game at a time,” Muyoti said as he picked his gong.
In January, Muyoti led Homeboyz to a perfect run winning all their four matches. They beat cross town neighbors Kisumu All Stars 4-0, then went on to win 1-0 against Zoo Kericho, which was followed up with a 2-1 conquest against Kariobangi Sharks.
Their biggest result that month was a 2-1 victory over defending champions Gor Mahia. The results at some point put them top of the standings.
Currently placed at third, Homeboyz are aiming to vie for the league title and the former Kenyan international who has previously coached AFC Leopards, Thika United and Nzoia Sugar all on short stints, is confident the team should not be ignored.
“Our target remains winning the league and we really believe it can happen. All the teams in the top four or five have a chance and it’s only going to depend on who has the best run in. But I’d love to break Gor Mahia’s dominance and give the top division some excitement,” Muyoti stated.
