Munala to name final squad ahead of Malkia Strikers' departure for Cameroon

Kenya’s national women volleyball team – The Malkia Strikers – will depart Nairobi on Thursday for Yaounde Cameroon ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations that will also double up as the World Championship qualifiers.

The team’s camp at Kasarani received a boost last weekend with the arrival of Seychelles based setter Jane Wacu whose experience and partnership with Janet Wanja could play a key role in securing Kenya’s ticket back to the world stage having withdrawn from this year’s World Grand Prix.

Wacu ,who recently joined Club Anse Royale (ARSU) of Seychelles arrived at the training camp on Saturday. Other setters in camp hoping for a slot in the team include Kenya Prisons setter Joy Lusenaka and Kenya junior team rising star Veronica Tanui.

Coach Japheth Munala is expected to name his final travelling squad of 12 players with four from the current sixteen expected to face the unfortunate cut.

The qualifiers will be held in Cameroon between October 7 to 14 in capital Yaoundé where the hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde, Egypt, Botswana, Tunisia, Chad, Congo RD, Kenya, Zambia, and Senegal will take part.

The top two teams in the finals will earn the qualification tickets to the 2018 World championship to be held in Japan.
