Munala, who boasts a star-studded squad that is home to Africa's best setter and left attacker, Emmaculate Nekesa and Mercy Moim as well as three other Malkia Strikers squad
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) 2023 playoffs have been slated for 2nd to 4th of October with 8 teams, 4 per gender, taking part.
In the women's league, coach Japheth Munala is hoping to guide Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) to the title, which would be a first since 2006.
The bankers will be up against holders Kenya Pipeline, former champions Prisons Kenya and Directrorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Munala, who boasts a star-studded squad that is home to Africa's best setter and left attacker, from the last continental championship, Emmaculate Nekesa and Mercy Moim as well as three other Malkia Strikers players, is confident the side will end their 17-year wait.
"With proper preparations, we have what it takes to win the league. We already know the teams we have to prepare for and are training with a game plan for each of the three teams.
If the regular league is anything to go by, we are in for a very competitive title chase. Each of the top three teams lost once in the lead up to the playoffs so we will have to be at our best to win," Munala offered.
The tactician admits that his team chemistry was tested during the final league leg as they hadn't trained together for long, seeing as some players were away on national team duty.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Munala said the team is already working on that adding that consistency will be key in delivering the elusive title.
"Defense will be key for us as we fight for the title," the 2022 African Club Championships winning coach said. "We also have to keep our mistakes on the down low and capitalise on any from our opponents to stay ahead in the race for the title."
The men's league title will be a battle between holders General Service Unit (GSU) who are going for a sixth- straight gong, former champions Prisons Kenya, Paul Bitok-Foundations tournament champions and reigning silver medalists Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
