Mouthwatering fixtures across Europe as leagues resume

Fans in Kenya will certainly have their eyes cast on the English Premier League, and undoubtedly two fixtures – Arsenal v Leeds and Man City v Liverpool.

It’s a big weekend in the European leagues with a host of mouth watering fixtures to look forward to in England, Spain and Germany.

Fans in Kenya will certainly have their eyes cast on the English Premier League, and undoubtedly two fixtures – Arsenal v Leeds and Man City v Liverpool.

You see, Arsenal are eight points clear with 10 games to go. They are in pursuit of their first EPL title since the unbeaten 2003/04 season.  It looks a seemingly straightforward match for Arsenal but Leeds have nothing to lose and an upset for them is advantage to Man City who are second placed with a game in hand.

City hosts Liverpool in Saturday's early kickoff for a match that has been the most significant in English soccer in recent years. This season, however, Liverpool is way off the title pace and and is simply looking to make the top four to return to the Champions League. Liverpool is in sixth place, seven points off the top four but with games in hand.

Over in Germany, the “Klassiker” between bitter rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund is also on this weekend. Ten-time defending champion Bayern is one point behind Dortmund going into “der Klassiker” and the clash has been given added intrigue with Thomas Tuchel making his debut in charge of the Bavarian powerhouse against his former team. Bayern appointed Tuchel as coach last week after firing Julian Nagelsmann. Eight rounds remain after Saturday’s game.

Let’s go to Spain where Barcelona visits Elche in a matchup of the league leader against the bottom side. The front-runner already has a commanding 12-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid. Xavi Hernández may consider rotating his starting lineup following an international break when many players played for their national sides and with a Copa del Rey clash with Madrid looming.

All in all, a great set of fixtures to look forward to this weekend, enjoy your local and international football.
