Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has expressed his satisfaction with the progress Kenya is making in preparation to co-host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Tanzania and Uganda. During his visit on Friday December 20th, 2024, Motsepe toured several key sports facilities, including the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex and Police Sacco Stadium, which are all being renovated in preparation for the tournament.
“I can confidently say that there is significant progress on the ground,” Motsepe stated after inspecting the facilities. He noted that they are on track to meet the stringent requirements set by CAF for the tournament which will take place in February 2025. “The next time I return will be for CHAN, and we’re set to have the most successful edition in the history of the competition.”
The renovations at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium, two of Kenya’s largest venues, are crucial for hosting the tournament’s matches. In addition, smaller venues like Ulinzi Sports Complex, Police Sacco Stadium and Kirigiti Stadium will be used for training camps ahead of the tournament. These projects, which have been underway for months are progressing according to schedule with the country racing to ensure they are completed well before the event.
Kenyan President William Ruto also expressed confidence that the country will be fully prepared for the tournament despite the challenges of tight timelines. “Kenya is doing everything possible to be ready for the African Nations Championship in February 2025,” he said. “Renovations are progressing as planned, and we are committed to making this a successful tournament.”

The CAF President took the opportunity to thank the Kenyan government and FKF for their dedication and efforts in preparing for the tournament.
“Kenya has the potential to host a world-class tournament and I’m confident that with the continued commitment from all parties, CHAN 2025 will be a huge success,” Motsepe added.
As the clock ticks down to the start of the tournament, the Kenyan government and FKF remain focused on completing the renovations on time. Hosting CHAN 2025 will be a major milestone for Kenya, Kenyan teams will have a chance to scout African talents together with the thriving of local businesses during the event.
