Mercy Wanyama lands award in Spain
Mercy Wanyama who is the younger sister former Kenyan internationals MacDonald Mariga and Victor Wanyama is the first Kenyan to play basketball professionally in Spain
Kenya Lionesses centre player Mercy Wanyama had been named in the Eurobasket.com All-Spanish LF2 Awards second team, during awards held on 12 May.
The younger sister to Kenyan Internationals Victor Wanyama and Mcdonald Mariga joined Spanish League 2 side El Cortegada in January 2021.
Wanyama had previously played for Avilés Basketball Sports Group (ADBA) Avilés in the last two seasons before joining Cortegada where she was seen as the replacement for the departing Teodora Saric of Serbia.
The 31-year-old helped Cortegada to finish in sixth place as she averaged 12.9 points per game.
Senegalese forward Aya Traore was named Player of the Year, adding to her Forward of the Year award with Iyana Martin bagging the Guard of the year.
Mariana Muadi and Amy Griffin were the Centre of the Year and Import Player of the Year award winners respectively.
Iyana Martin also bagged the Domestic Player of the Year in addition to her Guard award.
