Mathare United women skipper Judith Atieno signs for Rwandese Women’s Premier League side Rayon Sports

Mathare United women skipper Judith Atieno has completed a season-long move to Rwandese Women’s Premier League side Rayon Sports, the two clubs announced on Thursday.

Atieno joins the growing lost of Kenyan women footballers who are seeking moves abroad, as the Kenyan scene stagnates due to the current confusion in management of the game.

Atieno has been a cog in the Mathare side since she joined in 2018 and last season scored 11 goals for them in the league. She received a signing fee of 350 USD (Approx Sh42,000) after penning the contract.

“I am glad for the opportunity to join Rayon and I am looking forward to the one season I will be here. I am a striker, I have come here to show what I can do and I will play for the badge,” she said after being unveiled.

“I am looking forward to give my best to the club. I like this team and I want to do what brought me here, play for the badge and be the best for the team and in the team,” she added.

Rayon participated in the CECAFA regional qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League for the first time this year and are now looking to firm up for the new season.
