Matano happy with Tusker charges ahead of new season
Coach Robert Matano in a previous league action
Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano says he is happy with the way his team is shaping out ahead of the new season, saying the new players have gelled in well. Matano has made many additions to the squad as they prepare to wrestle the Kenyan Premier League title from rivals Gor Mahia.
Matano put his players to test last week in a friendly match against Malawian side Silver Bullets winning 2-0 with new boy Mike Madoya grabbing both.
“We are coming up very well and I can see the players are doing good, Hopefully we will keep working because we need to do more to improve. But they are gelling well and in the coming months we will become a very good team,” the tactician stated.
Madoya, the 2017 KPL player of the year was a huge inclusion for Matano’s side and he showed his quality with the brace. But the tactician stated that he is not looking at individual prowess but what the team can do.
On how ready his team is ahead of the new season, Matano says they are halfway there.
“Not bad so far we are at about 50pc because it is like we are starting afresh. We will be ready for the new season and if we start well and be consistent, we will be okay,” the tactician noted.
Tusker finished the season third last year with Matano having found them willowing in the bottom half of the table and this season, the no nonsense tactician wants to bring trophies to Ruaraka.
They start their campaign away to Sony Sugar on December 9.
