Kenyan striker Masoud Juma delivered a late punch for his debut goal in the ABSA Premier Soccer L eague (PSL) that helped his side Cape Town City earn a point away to Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday evening.
Martizburg United, home to Kenyan defender Brian Mandela, had taken the lead through a quick move that saw Fortune Makaringe brilliantly setup Andrea Fileccia and the latter finished off in style. Brian Mandela missed the action for Maritzburg due to injury.
Masoud who came on a substitute for Moseamedi in the 63rd minute quickly got into the action. He should have equalized for Cape Town City in the 67th minute but shot straight for an easy collection by Maritzburg custodian Richard Ofori.
Deep into injury time, from a free kick that had hit the defence wall, Masoud shoveled a 14-yard volley off the rebound for his first goal in the PSL league and for the club to end the match 1-1.
Cape Town City are ranked 6th in the ABSA Premiership table with 35 points. Brian Mandela's Maritzburg occupy third position on 39 points. Mamemlodi Sundowns (46pts) and Orlando Pirates (45pts) are first and second respectively.
Juma who is the 2017 Kenyan Premier League golden boot joined the South Africa’s PSL club Cape Town City early this year after a dream season in KPL where he bagged 18 league goals to emerge the top scorer.
