Mariga's Parma relegated to Amateur League
International Kenyan midfielder MacDonald MAriga may find himself playing in an amateur league next season if he fails to secure a move after his Italian club Parma FC was relegated to Serie D (fourth tier) due to bankruptcy.
The once famous club that was a force to reckon with in the 1990s when they won the Uefa Cup twice has already been relegated from Serie A after finishing bottom and being declared bankrupt.
The club has been looking for a buyer who could have helped offset a 75m euros debt but has been unsuccessful.
A statement on the club website read:
“The administrators of Parma FC, Dr Angelo Anedda and Dr Alberto Guion, communicated that as of 14.00 today, June 22 2015, no offers have been received for the sporting rights of the club,”.
“In the coming hours the administrators will meet with the creditor’s committee and the bankruptcy judge Dr Pietro Rogato to make the necessary arrangements for the bankruptcy proceedings.”
The new development means the club cannot be registered even in second tier Serie B.
The 28-year-old Mariga played in seven games for Parma last season. His last appearance was against Sampdoria on 21st May.
Mariga is the most successful footballer in East Africa after clinching the UEFA Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010.
