Mariga hits out at Mwendwa over talent comments, calls for his resignation

This is an insult & disrespect to the current, former & all upcoming footballers who have continuously suffered playing under his reign, the players have shown immense pride and patriotism to represent the Kenyan flag in various international assignments and this is what they get in return.

Former Kenyan international, Macdonald Mariga, the only Kenyan to win the UEFA Champions League in past action against Uganda

Former Kenyan international Macdonald Mariga has hit out at FKF President Nick Mwendwa over his recent comments regarding Kenyan footballing talent.

"Even if you bring Jose Mourinho, even if you bring Mikel Arteta....the work that needs to be done is that we need to bring talents to the table. For you to win, you need quality players," said Mwendwa, who was a guest on NTV Kenya’s sports talk show, “The Game Plan” on Monday 11 October 2021.

Mariga, who won the UEFA Champions League with Inter Milan in 2010 responded via his official Twitter handle, saying, “I’m appalled by FKF President Nick Mwendwa’s sentiments made on live Tv that Kenya has no talented football players to compete with other nations. This is an insult & disrespect to the current, former & all upcoming footballers who have continuously suffered playing under his reign, the players have shown immense pride and patriotism to represent the Kenyan flag in various international assignments and this is what they get in return.”

He further added, “For 7 years under his leadership, Football in Kenya has gone backwards and no progress whatsoever and for that We demand for his immediate apology and resignation as FKF boss.”
