Thank God, the midweek surgery went well. I wanna take this opportunity to thank and show my appreciation to you all.

Senegal talisman Sadio Mane underwent surgery for the fibula injury that ruled him out of the World Cup in Qatar.

He confirmed this via a post on his official Facebook page, saying, “Many of you have sent messages of support following my injury. Thank God, the midweek surgery went well. I wanna take this opportunity to thank and show my appreciation to you all.”

Initially included in Aliou Cisse’s 26 man roster for the tournament before it was proven that his injury was more severe than initially thought, Mane rallied support for the team ahead of the opening fixture against Netherlands, saying, “This Monday, our dear country will compete in the World Cup, Qatar 2022. I am sure the Lions will transcend and approach every game as a true finale.”

“I am also convinced that all Senegalese will be in front of the screens to support and encourage our valiant national team. Like all the unconditional in the Taniere, I am convinced that the teammates will fight as one man and as they usually do in order to honor our dear country,” he concluded.

The superstar forward was injured and substituted after 20 minutes of Bayern Munich’s 6-1 Bundesliga victory over Werder Bremen just two weeks ahead of the World Cup.
