National women's volleyball team Malkia Strikers are set to face hosts Cameroon in a crucial semi final match at the ongoing CAVB African Nations Championship.

The match set for 6:00pm local time (8pm EAT) will not only be a fight for a final berth but also for qualification to next year's Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Assistant coach Paul Bitok, in an interview admitted that playing against Cameroon at home has never been easy but maintained that the Kenyan side is ready.

"Playing against the home team is always difficult but we have done it before and I believe we will do it again. The hosts have changed their team, brought in some youngsters as they start a rebuilding process but they are still good.

There is a lot at stake in this clash as we want to qualify for the Olympics and the only way is to lock out Cameroon with a win, and reclaim the African title. It will be a complex match but the focus remains the same.

The coordination of our team has greatly improved and we are also doing better on reception which has been a problematic area for us. This gives us confidence going into this match," Bitok offered.

Malkia Strikers last won the Nations Championship in 2015 when Kenya was hosting. Since then, the home girls have gone on to lose to Cameroon in Yaounde (2017), Cairo (2019) and Kigali (2021) a streak that the players are ready to end.

In the quarters, Kenya beat Nigeria easily in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-11) outcome to make it to the semis, a match that Veronica Adhiambo was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP).

In her interview after the accolade, Adhiambo admitted that her strong services are not where they were last year adding that an improvement will easily hand Kenya the win against Cameroon.

"It will not be an easy match. They have the fans and that can be distracting but we will stick to our game plan, not minding the fans and I am confident we will win," she offered.
