Malkia Strikers have vowed to defend their African Games title in honor of team captain Mercy Moim who is headed back to Nairobi following the demise of her husband, Joseph Chama Asuza who died on Saturday following a traffic accident in Nairobi.
Assistant captain, Trizah Atuka, is quoted in the Daily Nation after Monday's 3-0 (25-13, 25-16,25-15) win over DR Congo, saying, " We are saddened by the death of our team captain's husband. "
"We share in her pain and grief. We pray and hope that God will comfort her and give her peace. Moim's absence will be felt because she is an instrumental and integral part of the team but we want to maintain our composure and record wins in our remaining matches," concluded Atuka.
At the time of his death, Asuza, who has previously turned out for former KPL side Red Berets was preparing for the burial of his mother who had passed away a few days earlier.
We at Michezo Afrika join the entire sporting fraternity in extending our condolences to Mercy Moim and the larger Asuza family.
