Kenya is also set to battle Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Burkina Faso and Lesotho in the group stage before moving on to the knock-out stages.

National women's volleyball team, Malkia Strikers begin their campaign for a record tenth title against fellow East Africans, Rwanda on Wednesday 16 August.

The Luizomar de Moura-coached side has been placed in Pool 'B' of the CAVB Africa Nations Championship set to serve off in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Kenya is also set to battle Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Burkina Faso and Lesotho in the group stage before moving on to the knock-out stages.

Defending champions and hosts Cameroon headline Pool ‘A’ that also has DR Congo, Nigeria, Algeria, Burundi, Mali and Egypt.

Kenya's first match against Rwanda is a repeat of their last friendly match played on Tuesday where Kenya won 3-0 (25-14, 27-25, 25-14).

"From Morocco all the way to Yaounde, preparations have been good. From today's friendly, I am confident that the squad is ready and this win gives us confidence," assistant coach Paul Bitok offered after the friendly match.

The nine-time champions, however, have their work cut out as they go to battle without star player Sharon Chepchumba who picked an injury during their final friendly match that could sideline her for 2 or 3 days.

In her absence, Kenya Pipeline youngster Loice Simiyu will be called to action with Bitok confident the squad has enough players to fill in for her absence.

"We have been preparing for such an eventuality as this is part of the game and I am impressed with how Simiyu performed during the friendly when Chumba was taken off.

Luckily, we have several other players who can switch positions if need be. We will be able to adjust to this situation," Bitok added.

The top four teams in each pool will then proceed to the knock-out stages with the top placed pool A side playing the fourth-placed pool B team and vice versa.

The second place finishers in pool A face the third-placed team in pool B and vice versa in search of the semi finalists.
