Malkia Strikers determined to reclaim African title as they face Cameroon
Kenya's women volleyball team to take n Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations Finals in Cairo
National team Malkia Strikers will face Cameroon in the final of the African Women’s Volleyball Nations Championship in Cairo on Sunday night, with confidence they have what it takes to regain the title. Kenya will face off with Cameroon in a repeat of the 2017 final which the West Africans won 3-1.
However, the team is confident especially after their come-from-behind performance in the group stages performance where they stunned Cameroon 3-2.
Skipper Mercy Moim says the team is confident that their ambition will be fulfilled.
“We will get the cup back home. We are ready to face Cameroon, we know it will be a tough game but we are ready to give them a tough game,” stated Moim.
Her sentiments were echoed by team mates Triza Atuka and Edith Wisa.
“One of our missions when we came here was to get to the final and now we have achieved that. The second mission is to win the title and we will do our best. We will meet Cameroon and having played against them in the group stage matches, we know them better. We know their weaknesses and strengths and we will look to exploit them,” Wisa stated.
Atuka added; “We have played well so far and the performances in every game have given us motivation. There is no easy game now because all teams are improved.”
Meanwhile, skipper Moim has disclosed they beat Senegal in the semi final on Saturday after doing a thorough homework on them.
“We knew that they have a very good player who is excellent at hitting and we didn’t want to play the ball to them comfortably. We also knew that their libero is not a very good receiver of the ball and the strategy was to serve strongly to her and make them not combine easily,” Moim disclosed.
