They trailed 26-24 at the end of the first quarter, before ralliyng in the second quarter, the 39-39 second just reward for Liz Mills charges.
They continued to take the fight to the Ivoriens, trailing 60-54 at the close of the third quarter before being outscored 28-16 in the last quarter in their first AfroBasket fixture in 28 years.
Tyler Ongwae was Kenya's standout performer, managing 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.
