Trailing 33-39 at half tme, Kenya's Lionesses fell to a 50-74 loss to hosts Cameroon in their FIBA Women's AfroBasket opener in Yaounde on Saturday 18 September 2021.

Mercy Wanyama was Kenya's top performer with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block in a match where the Lionesses started strongly but faded away in the third quarter.

They had opened the first quarter trailing 17-21 and 16-18 but that third quarter collapse where they fell 9-26 proved to be their undoing. An 11-9 fourth quarter display was too little, too late for the Kenyans.

They face Cape Verde in their second fixture on Sunday.
